- Mahavir Jayanti is a major festival celebrated by followers of Jainism to commemorate the birth of Lord Mahavir, the 24th and last Tirthankara (spiritual teacher) of the Jain religion. It is usually celebrated in March or April on the 13th day of the waxing moon in the month of Chaitra according to the Hindu calendar.

On Mahavir Jayanti, Jains across the world gather in temples to offer prayers and seek blessings from the Lord. The day is marked by various rituals, including the recitation of prayers and the chanting of hymns in praise of Lord Mahavir. Many devotees also engage in acts of charity and kindness, such as feeding the poor and offering donations to charitable causes.

Mahavir Jayanti is an important day for Jains, who see it as an opportunity to reflect on the life and teachings of Lord Mahavir, and to recommit themselves to the principles of non-violence, truthfulness, and compassion that he espoused.

                   Mahavir Swami's Birth - 

Mahavir Swami, also known as Lord Mahavira, was born on the 13th day of the bright half of the Indian lunar month Chaitra in 599 BCE in Kundagrama, near Vaishali, in present-day Bihar, India.

His parents were Siddhartha and Trishala, who were from the royal family of Kshatriyas. According to Jain tradition, Siddhartha was the chief of the republic of Kundagrama, and Trishala was a noblewoman who was known for her beauty, wisdom, and virtues.

It is believed that before the birth of Mahavira, Trishala had a series of auspicious dreams, which were interpreted as a sign that her child would be a great spiritual leader. After Mahavira's birth, his parents named him Vardhamana, which means "one who grows".
